Everyone is searching for things that make them happy.
Whether that's binge watching your favourite TV show…
Getting lost in a good book…
Or spending your time playing your favourite video game...
All these things have one thing in common. (Playing and listening to music does this “thing” too…)
They release dopamine into your brain.
In 2019, a study got published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. It shows that listening (and playing…) music increases the levels of dopamine in the brain.
That means music makes you happier!
In case you didn’t know… dopamine is a chemical your brain releases to feel pleasure.
You also may not know this about your brain…
Whatever your brain finds pleasurable it wants more of. That’s why it feels good to sit in front of the TV... munching on a bag of chocolate buttons… rather than go out and exercising. (Okay, that one might be me sometimes.)
Here’s another example...
Video game creators are masters of giving your brain “dopamine hits” that make you want to play longer. It’s the reason people can't stop playing games like Candy Crush.
Each time you play a video game… your brain gets flooded with dopamine. This makes you want to come back to it again and again.
Our brain wants more of whatever it finds pleasurable.
But besides from making you feel happier… it’s also important to find ways to keep learning music fun.
I don’t have time to go into this today, I’ll leave this for another time. For today, try and spend some time listening to music you love!
