Ever wonder how some people seem to have endless bags of motivation… and others struggle to stay motivated to learn?

Motivation is an interesting thing. It often comes and goes in seasons...

Sometimes you’ll feel great like nothing can stop you. Other times, you’re filled with doubt and disbelief.

Motivation & Your Proudest Moments

This might surprise you but even after 15+ years of learning music…

I STILL have ups and downs. Times I feel on top of the world… and other times I feel hopelessly awful. (Yes, I do still get those feelings.)

Here’s the thing…

Success with anything comes down to how you help yourself through those times.

I’d like to share one way I help myself. (So you know… this little trick does NOT stop these tough times from showing up at your door. Good learning should have ups and downs.)

Here’s one way I do it…

Focus on your proudest moments. No matter how small.

When learning anything… it’s easy to focus on what you “can’t” do. The challenges you want to overcome. The goals you want to achieve. And these things are good…

But when you’re feeling demotivated… focusing on what you can’t do, fuels that little doubtful part of the brain.

Motivation & Your Proudest Moments

I’d recommend keeping a list of things you’ve achieved in your time learning.

They can be as small as learning your first chord. Or when you did your first performance. Or when you learned your first song.

It doesn’t matter what it is, in times of struggle it can be helpful to focus on what you have achieved to boost your motivation.

I’ve found this to be helpful for me. It reminds me of everything I’ve achieved. All the little victories I’ve had. And to travel back in time and enjoy them again.

So, if you had to make a list or achievements… what would go on your list?
