Ever wondered what teachers (and professional musicians) do when they feel demotivated?

It’s easy to put people we admire or look up to onto a pedestal.

To see them as some kind of ultra-successful person… who has it all figured out. Someone who feels motivated every single day to pick up their guitar and practice.

But this is far from the truth…

You see, while I’m not an ultra-successful musician like Ed Sheeran or Paul McCartney…

I’ve been around the block a few times when it comes to playing and learning music. And I’ve had my fair share of days where I don’t feel like playing. I don’t feel like writing music. (Heck, even days where I don’t feel up to teaching.)

And I’m willing to bet money that any musician (or friend) who you admire goes through the same thing.

I bet Ed Sheeran has days where he doesn’t feel like writing music…

Or Paul McCartney had days where he didn’t feel up for doing a show…

But let’s bring this back to YOU.

When Teachers Feel Demotivated Here’s What They Do

What can you do when you feel demotivated to pick up the guitar?

The answer is super simple…

Go back to what you love. Go back to what inspired you to play in the first place.

I can’t say what that is for you. Only you know what that is. But we all have a reason why we picked up the guitar in the first place. Whether that’s playing in a band with friends… or playing a song from your favourite band.

Whenever you feel down in the dumps… go back to what you love.

For me… it’s playing music I love. Whether a good John Mayer song… or a pop punk classic like “Teenage Dirtbag” by Wheatus. (Anyone remember those guys?)

When Teachers Feel Demotivated Here’s What They Do

I don’t know if anyone needed to hear this today…

Know that if you are feeling demotivated to pick up and play…

The feeling does pass…

And you will want to pick up the guitar again.
