There’s many reasons why people quit the guitar...

Most people will put it down to external factors.

This was me about 8 years ago…I was frustrated. Annoyed at myself.

I had hit a brick wall and it felt like I was smashing my face into it day in day out trying to break through.

Guaranteed plan for failure and frustration

It was ugly…

I would tell myself all these different stories:

“I’m not good enough.”

“My hands won’t move fast enough.”

“I’ll never be as good as they are.”

“This is impossible!”

The list goes on… I think you get the idea…

I was in bad shape. And I was thinking of stopping...

But one thing kept me coming back...

Music.

Guaranteed plan for failure and frustration

Every time I would hear the songs I love come on the radio...

It made me want to pick up my guitar and play...

But just as i was getting started... I'd hear myself playing... and think "this doesn't sound like the song"...

And then I'd stop...

*put's guitar down*.

I was making the biggest mistake in the book...

The one my mother warned me about...

And one I see people make ALL the time and it stops them living out a dream they've had since childhood.

What is it?...

I was comparing myself to other people...

And that was a recipe for guaranteed failure.

Why?

Because you’re creating the picture of yourself and your guitar playing that no matter how much work you put in...

How many hours you practice...

How many years you dedicate your life to the guitar…

You’ll never be good enough.

There’s always someone out there who’s better than you. So once you’re in this trap, it’s hard to escape.

The good news is that there is a way out....

A healthy approach...

One that puts you in the fast lane for progress rather than comparing yourself to someone else.

Look up to them for inspiration to see what’s possible...

To craft your own vision of what you want to do on the guitar.

Even if you only achieved 10% of that do you think it would be worth it? 100%.

Guaranteed plan for failure and frustration

I want you to enjoy playing the guitar and be fulfilled doing so.

I don’t want you to live out your existence beating yourself up over how you’re not good enough compared to whoever.

Guitar playing should be fun (as much fun as we can make it.)

Whenever you see someone who’s really good at guitar. Someone you admire.

Use their playing as inspiration....

Become excited about what’s possible.

I’ll stop ranting now. I get a little passionate about this stuff.

Have a great day and enjoy yourself!
