Yesterday I watched the movie Soul.

I’m a little late to the party on this one but I’m glad I watched it. The animation is incredible. And there’s parts of the movie that get you questioning a lot about your own life. (That’s a story for another time.)

In a moment I’ll explain how this simple Disney movie can help you find your “spark.” And how you can use that spark to...

  • Get into a special “state” that makes practice easy…
  • Feel effortlessly motivated to pick up the guitar every day…

Might sound like a lot, but hear me out on this one.

First of all, a quick back story on the movie…

It’s about Joe Gardner, a middle school band teacher who has a burning passion to be a performing Jazz musician.

But instead of touring America… he’s working with a bunch of middle school kids who can barely play. You can tell that it’s not the life he wants to live.

Joe knows that his “calling” in life (his spark if you will…) is to play jazz music.

Every time he plays, he transcends into this out-of-body experience. The music seems to take him away and Joe becomes lost in his own little world.

How your guitar playing “spark” can unlock unlimited motivation

It doesn't matter if he's playing jazz piano or practicing it...

Joe becomes INSTANTLY inspired.

Practice and playing music seems effortless to Joe…

And that’s what happens when you find your “musical spark.”

This state that Joe gets into is otherwise known as a “flow state.” It’s where things come naturally to you. There’s no resistance between you and the thing you want to do.

And the best part about this flow state is that practice happens more often. There’s no resistance between you and music. I’m not going to say that WHAT you practice becomes easy…

But doing the practice becomes easy...

And motivation blasts through the roof because you’re not practicing because you “have to.”

You’re doing it because you want to... and because it brings you joy.

So what can you do to find your “spark?”

The easiest way to start is to listen to all different kinds of music. Pop, Rock, Metal, Jazz, Blues, Country, etc...

And try to discover what you enjoy most. Watch musicians of that genre play on YouTube.

I can’t say for sure what your spark will be… but it’s not my job to tell you.

You've got to discover your spark yourself.
